March 4, 2005 - From Ms. Mary to friends: Giddyup, the carousel horse [formerly known as a rocking horse for kids], is almost ready for public viewing on my web site. This is the "secret thing" that MP and SJ were teasing me about and that I picked up in January when we were all in Phoenix. Giddyup has been put out to pasture (out to patio, actually) and has been undergoing a transformation. We removed the eucalyptus leaves and dried flowers that were hot-glued around his neck. We removed the big maroon crepe-paper bows with gold-buckle centers that had been hot-glued over the holes from his rocking horse days. He still has the same gold buckles over the same holes, but there are gold tassels hanging from the buckles now. SJ found the green ball from his pole and sent it down, so we put it on top the pole and wrapped the pole with a gold garland from the box of Christmas decorations. There are two rubber bands on Giddyups head to hold the buckles by his ears in place while the glue dries. And we still need to re-attach the hind leg that is broken off (it had been hot-glued on -- I suspect the broken leg is what ended his first career as a rocking horse). Soon, Giddyup's photo will be on the web site with the rest of the menagerie. SJ -- J.R.'s photo is on the web site. And he has the little flashlight (with a tiny compass in the handle) sticking out of his pocket. We discovered that there is a whistle in one end of the flashlight -- hope the neighbors won't mind the noise (I'm sure everyone on the bookshelf will want to have a turn blowing the whistle while I'm at work). |
