A caldronlike vessel with a flat base, rounded sides, and slightly restricted mouth; "ollas" almost always have two loop handles, often below the rim on the vessel body; a very common, general-purpose cooking pot; lovely patina, showing signs of wear and use; applied decoration; hand-coiled.

A "Sarten" is a pan with a flattened base and rather low vertical or slightly flaring walls; usually has a pair of horizontal loop handles, as this one does, and are used for cooking or frying a variety of foods, such as rice; this piece is particularly striking because of it's size & patina.
