| Actually these mods were done prior to 2005, but I did not update the website. I installed a Pro 5.0 shifter in order to save the precious 3rd gear T5 syncro (a known T5 Achilles heel) and improve shifting. Even the guys at Dallas Mustang were impressed by the shifter feel of this mod. You will also notice the Sapphire Cosworth 4x4 steering wheel which I installed; it feels perfect with a nice size horn button. Like the earlier original Cosworth item, it is leather-wrapped, thick rimmed and uses the same small diameter size. Pay no attention to the floor mats and door cards, as they are scheduled to be replaced/improved with mucher nicer & cleaner pieces. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

On the left is my 3" exhaust. It was custom made for me and is 3" all the way to the stock downpipe. It consists of a 3" hi-flow cat (gotta try to keep her legal fellas) and a 3" Apexi-style muffler with a 4" tip. As with all turbocharged vehicles, the muffler must be see-thru (no obstructions) which this one is. This is important. If my hand was narrow enough I would be able to stick my arm thru end-to-end. Many mufflers sold in Britian for Cosworths do not incorporate this feature, which actually helps create extra backpressure. It is louder this way than say, a Mongoose exhaust system. And it sounds great! As you can see, she's running a bit rich, but rich is better than lean!! To hear what the new exhaust sounds like: click here | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| On a side note: I have also installed a LHD speedo cable today. The great folks at Dallas Mustang did this for me. The people who put my car together in Britian used a RHD cable which was too long and apparently didnt fit it in correctly. For the first time, I was actually able to tell what speed I was doing!! Imagine that! I had a smile the size of a Cheshire cat driving home today! :) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

| I boiught myself a new header tank. Not that I needed it, but the old one was too brown and someone had written something on it, so it was too ugly looking. By the way, the header tank is made for the Cosworth 4x4, however the hosing had been converted to Cosworth 4x4 spec at some point in it's former life (a popular modification due to the lack of availability of the 2WD system components). | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Installing the GrpA coil. This is supposed to bring the Cosworth to a higher ignition standard (eg very similar to a Merkur's coil). Other than the fact it is smaller & square, the bigger deal is that it uses two spades per polarity vs. the original's single connection using a round contact. Rather than cut and wire in a pair of spades per polarity on the stock harness, I spliced into the existing connectors and added spade connectors to suppliment the stock coil wiring. The makes it retrofittable and doesnt ruin the car's stock coil wiring. Does it make a difference? Yes it does and it helps for a more efficent burn apparently, but I dont feel any real differences. Every little bit helps, however. |
