| While looking through old e-mails I typed I found this one. It is my response to a young woman who had been so kind as to tell me her views on race and how I was part of the "white imperialist government" or something. It all sprang from her seeing my personal ad online where I said something about "proud Nordic features", she had to message me to ask if I was racist and then a debate of sorts started. This was pretty good writing, I like to think, and so I put it up here. I haven't put her letter up, but I think this one stands alone pretty well. Interesting, though I am afraid I have to disagree. You may be earning your degree right now, but there seems to be a few things that even you don't realize. You said "Any one of color cannot be racist because they do not have power", I can't believe you even made that statement. Since when is power required to hate? I can give personal examples of people of color being racist. And to say that no person of color has power is generalizing an entire race, there ARE blacks with power. And whites without it, myself for example. God, tell me this isn't what they teach you in college, but rather a path onto yourself. Do you come from a sheltered family? You say to look at our prisons? What part? The Aryan Brotherhood, or the fact that there are so many black in it? As for the AB, yes, they are racist, but to judge every white on the basis of these men is as stupid as to judge every black off those who have harmed me. As for the number of blacks in prison, did you ever consider that they might just have broken laws? That tends to be the reason people go to prison, anything else is an excuse not to be held to their actions. I think it sad that so many people in our society would rather make criminals the victims of "white imperialism" that to have them take responsibility for their actions. I don't think it is wrong to demand equality from minorities, nor from majorities, I demand it from the entire human race. I don't see how we could ever attain it if we just keep waiting for each other to fulfill it. The longer we separate ourselves the longer it will be before we come together. Racial equality is not just something that whites need to come to understand, it is something all people need to come to understand. Ideas like yours give certain black people an excuse, "The man is oppressing me", "can't get a job cause I'm black", these thoughts and also the promotion of the idea of white racism is what holds them back. I have been attacked before, because of your line of thought. I am whitey, I am the oppressor, the racist, get me before I get you. The more we are made the enemy, the more they will believe we are, and they will take longer to trust us. And the vast majority of whites in this world (contrary to popular belief) are not racist, many of them are overly eager to make up for wrongs they never committed. And don't preach to me about under funded schools, I've been to too many to hear that load. Anyone who wants an education can attain one, lack of funding or not, haven't you seen Good Will Hunting? (LOL) SAT's are not race specific, they are education specific, you don't get any extra points for marking off a little bubble that says Caucasian. I have never been very well off, but my life is getting better all the time, due to hard work. I don't get some special treatment for being white and if I do, when the hell does it kick in? And these under funded schools again, are they all black schools? Are they not public schools? I am sure there are a few under funded white kids going to these schools as well. And how would an under funded school get funds? Think about it, why would the government want to put money toward a school that doesn't produce very many successes? And before we continue we must remember that even with funding a great number of the students would continue as is. Even with under funded schools you can succeed, but many of the students don't care enough to try. So, the reason for lack of representation in colleges and universities is talked about. (Omitted text that made little sense without the girl's letter, mostly stuff involving the homeless.). As for being victims of violent crimes, let us talk about being perpetrators of violent crimes. If a black man smashes my face and takes my wallet, does that qualify him as a victim? What about me? And if he goes to jail for it, I bet that is the "white imperialist government", isn't it? I just realized that the first 90 words of your letter were basically just you bragging on your qualifications, want to hear mine? Life experience, something you can't learn out of a book. I have learned bits from other places, but that is what I have to brag on. Honestly, you grew up in a well off, most likely all white neighborhood, didn't you? |
