STARTING THE PLANT.....
Mix several teaspoons yeast with warm water and feed with 2 tsp sugar and 2 tsp ground ginger eachdayuntil the plant grows big enough.
To the plant add 1 cup water; 2 teaspoons ground ginger; 2 teaspoons sugar. Do not stir.
Next morning add 2 teaspoons sugar; 3rd morning; 2 teaspoons ginger and 2 teaspoons sugar
4th and 6th mornings: 2 teaspoons sugar
5th morning: 2 teaspoons ginger and 2 teaspoons sugar
Do not stir at all, until the last sugar has been added, then stir and allow the sediment to settle. When nsettled pour off the liquid as near to the plant as possible.
Add 1 cup water to the plant, then 2 tsp sugar and ginger as before.
Make up as follows. -
Put 2 cups sugar and 2 cups boiling water and the juice of 2 lemons into a large container, strain fluid off the plant and add.. Then add 22 cups of cold water. Bottle.
Can be used after 2 weeks. When the plant gets too big, halve it and carry on again.. beginning with 1 cup water and 2 tsp ginger.
Alternative:
To make up:
Dissolve 3 cups sugar in 4 cups hot water (add 0-2 tsp cream of tartar to make more fizzy).
Add 14 cups cold water to strained juice of 2 lemons. Add liquid from bug thruough strainer. Stir and bottle (7 beer bottles) cap and date.
Throw away 1/2 the sediment in the bottom.
Add 2 cups cold water.
To feed bug:
1 tsp each of sugar and ground ginger every day.. DO NOT STIR
