Re: Nicholas R. Boyle - Candidacy for Initiate Status
Derek ---
In days of old I would have been shocked and appalled at your rather blatant attempt to whitewash the circumstances whereby Mr. Nicholas Boyle is currently residing at the San Francisco House; however, nothing you so "conveniently" manage to arrange surprises me any longer. I have known you far too long as both boy and man to believe that anything happens to and around you by mere happenstance. I must admit, however, that the tone of your official letter to this House almost made me believe that you'd forgotten how far reaching the Legacy's contacts are. Again, I believe it would be a serious mistake to underestimate you, my friend.
Needless to say, I am well aware of the circumstances under which Mr. Boyle has been - delivered, shall we say - to your competent care. It has also been brought to my attention that this situation is far from satisfactory from the young man's point-of-view. Perhaps you should re-think whatever scheme you are cooking up, Derek. Robert Boyle may have been one of our most valuable initiates, but he was also one of our most volatile. Because of your deep friendship with the man, I question whether you are viewing his son in a biased light. According to Nicholas' military record - and his recent brush with the law - he has certainly inherited at least a portion of his father's temper.
Nevertheless, you are correct that his Navy SEAL background would be immensely invaluable to the organization and I would treat his petition - should he make it - with the respect and consideration it deserves. Of course, I would look to you for an "official" recommendation of his admittance and an agreement to be his Precept and mentor. This is not a task you should consider undertaking lightly, my friend. You have already built a solid, well-rounded team in San Francisco and I question your drive to intermingle Nicholas Boyle's hardened personality with the rest of your group. But, as always, you are never quite as happy as when you are stirring up some kind of mischief, are you?
Therefore, I will have the details regarding how Mr. Boyle came to reside at the San Francisco House sealed to a "Grade 12 Clearance Level". Nonetheless, I warn you, Derek - should Mr. Boyle decide to do so, his petition for membership into the Legacy *must be* submitted by him and him alone! No matter what prompting you devise in order to fulfill your "grand scheme" revolving around him, this must be *his* decision - for the sake of the Legacy, as well as for his own!
On a personal note, regarding your "arrangement" with Margaret Hamilton ..... A word of caution, old boy - you must learn to cover your tracks better in the future! You are playing with legal fire. Enough said?
Edmund Tremayne, K.B.E.
