Just a quick note. We'll be landing in Albuquerque shortly. If all goes well, I
should be in Gallup by four.
I received the call late last night from Major Boyle's widow and had the
cashier's check cut this morning. I also called an early meeting to announce a long
term guest to the rest of the household. I told them as little a possible, but did find it
necessary to mention Nick's legal difficulties and ask that everyone be helpful with
regard to the court's restrictions. I know they are all curious, but it is Nick's place to
reveal what he wishes. Doubtless they'll dig a bit, but I've taken care of that to some
extent - a few sealed files and ghostly sunspots should keep Alex busy.
I believe it was rather awkward for Mrs. Boyle to ask for my assistance.
Other than a Luna Foundation pension, she was never willing to accept my help.
Finally, about a year after the major's death, she chose to sever all communications.
I believe the memories were too distressing for her. Once Nick graduated high
school and went into the service, she decided to move closer to her sister. I've kept
abreast but have never attempted to resume contact.
I'm sorry that asking for my help with Nick's bail proved so difficult for her,
but at least the plan progresses as I had hoped. Because of the present case in
Gallup and the fact that this weekend is a three day holiday - the Fourth of July, I'll
not be able to post bail in LA until Tuesday. As a former SEAL, I would hope that
Mr. Boyle has learned to cultivate patience - and to seize an opportunity when it is
presented.
