Call me! Please. I need to talk to you.
I went over to Angel Island to give Nick his stuff. He wasn't there to greet me at the dock like he was before. I couldn't find him til I remembered him saying he was camping out in the boat house.
I've told you how cocky he can be. He's an ex-Navy SEAL, so what do you expect. He'd confident, but I always got the feeling that it was a hard earned, well deserved confidence. He's a real stand-up guy. He's short & stocky, but like Gibraltar is short and stocky.
I found him in the boat house. He was curled up in his sleeping bag. He was awake, but I couldn't rouse him for a bit. He knew I was there, but his eyes had this look of utter devastation. I don't know what else to call it. I've covered a lot of tragedies in my career, but I've never seen a look like that before. Nothing to even compare with it. He had Dr. Rayne's ring in his hand, clinched so tightly that the knuckles were turning blue. In the other hand was a handwritten letter. He wouldn't let me see it. He wouldn't let go of it. I didn't know what to do, but to sit there for a while. Actually for about an hour. It's really shaken me.
Finally, he sat up, apologized, & asked what I had. I explained it all & gave him the folder and the samples. Then, surprisingly, he told me to forget it all. He said, "Don't go any further. Don't involve anyone else. Don't come here again." In essence, it was "Thanks loads... Franny... but this is poison. Don't call me, I'll call you." I'm baffled, but tell Dan to shred the file I sent. He hasn't shown it to anyone, has he? Please, say No.
Love... call me... I really need to talk to you, Fran
