I've tried to give a bit of history of what I've done to fix up this boat!! Since it took nearly a year, I won't bore you with everything!! But these are some pictures of the progress of the boat. It was done with the help of some very good friends, lots of money and a lot of blood, sweat and tears! Click on the pictures to see a larger version.
This is what the boat looked like when I first saw it in October, 1998. The next one is the boat in March, 2000, sitting in Watergate in Kemah, Texas.
A friend had just bought it. But I am being EVICTED from Watergate Marina!! I moved the boat here in February, 2000. In March, the DUTCH owners came to visit - and during their inspection of the marina, they just didn't feel this FUNky boat met their "qualifications" - whatever that may be!!! So they served papers on poor Maggie - I have to be out of here by end of April!! Guess that is God's way of paying me back for all the years I told "DUTCH" jokes!! (Do you know how to save a Dutchman from drowning? You don't? GOOD!!) 6/1/00- UPDATE. I DID move out of Watergate. This
is Maggie - Taken in March, 2000 in Watergate.
In new marina.. This shows the pier I'm on: FAR from land! These are just some fun fotos taken the week of July 4, 2000. Everyone is always screaming for new pictures! You notice that I'm not getting much help in putting up the jib - or stuffing it into the bag!! (There are TWO men standing around watching me - "GO MAGS!") The third foto is on a glorious day of sailing on Galveston bay! The next day was spent making repairs! It's tough docking when reverse doesn't work!! AND when the steering slips! I think we have that fixed now - we'll find out next weekend!! That's my friend, Jerry, who helped me (rather, he DID the work, I carried and fetched!) ! It was also his first sailing trip!! He is a fisherman... used to skitting along a 'go fast' speeds!! I am working on converting him to the 'true faith' of sailing! But he has the nerve to go with me while I practice - and taking over when things get too tough for old Mags!! He's also teaching me how to live off the sea! We caught blue crabs off the boat and cooked them up the night of July 4 - while watching a panorama of fireworks from the boat! LIFE IS GOOD! |
