I was finally able to contact Pandy's original owner - the wicked witch of North, South, East and West combined about 6 months after Pandy came to live with us. It turned out that Pandy was much older than I was originally told. She was purchased as an unweaned, unfeathered baby in December 6 years prior. She was probably born in late November of 1994. She was originally called Pandora and I officially changed her name to Pandy after my conversation with Jennifer the Witch. She was extremely abused and neglected but she did share a cage with another conure that she bonded with who died apparently of psitticosis. After Pandy lost her conure pal she became a 24/7 screamer. The Witch took Pandy to her mother's house in Atlanta and left her there. Her mother kept her about a month or so and brought her to a wonderful pet shop in Atlanta and said if they didn't take the bird she'd kill it. Nancy took Pandy, who tested positive for Psitticosis, kept her in isolation at her daughters home and treated her but could not keep her. Having so many babies at the pet shop no one wanted an older, untame 24/7 screamer and Pandy remained there at the pet shop for about 6 months. When Perky my parakeet died in surgery and Nancy found out I had an open spot in my birdroom she told me about homeless little Pandy and how no one wanted her. Of course I went home that day with a 24/7 screaming little cherry head conure that thought it was great fun to bite any human available as hard as she could. Pandy has now been with me for almost 6 years. She had her own cage for many years and gradually learned what life was like in a nice home with lots of toys and love. She still prefers parrot companions over the human kind and she is head over heels in love with Mozart. About 6 months ago I decided that they could share a cage and it's working out very well. 9-13-2006 |
