Ken Brothwell - b.1940

Background:

Pattern Maker by trade in heavy engineering. Started in the pub trade mid '70s. Worked for Peter Dominic Wine Co in Aylesbury. Moved across Aylesbury to be Function Manager at the new ground of Aylesbury United Football Club. Came to Cambridge Meridian Golf Club for the opening of the new club house in September 1994 as the Steward working with Phil Lloyd, the Club's first manager. Moved to Royston Golf Club in December 1998 and became Venerables Honorary Life Member. Became Chairman of the East Anglia Stewards Association in 2001 for two years.

Contribution to the Venerables:

Played a very important part in setting up the Senior Section of the Club. He made a special effort to ensure that all newcomers (particularly potential Venerables) were introduced to existing members. Did much to encourage and assist in group activities, whether golfing or social - and even acted as club salesman for the Venerable ties. Set up the first UK tour to Barnham Broom with 21 Venerables, the second year we returned there this time with 44 Venerables and their Apprentices. Joined in most of our away days - including France 2001, his first trip abroad.

Wife Viv, and son Steve did much to enhance the Venerables' ambiance. Viv and Ken presented the fine UK Tour trophy to the Venerables.
