a silent hall
The new hall rings with silence. Lady Katherine's footsteps echo hollowly off the stone floor. If only a guest would come. But, alas, folk traveled so little these days...

a strange visitor...
::A young girl of 16 years stands before you. She tosses her cheasnut red hair from her face and stares at you with deep blue eyes. Her clothes look as though they were new and expensive, but they are now dirty and fraying. She holds a large, blue egg in her hands, cradaling it gently. As you watch, the egg cracks, and the tiny onyx head and crystaline, faceted horns of a baby dragon emerge.::

the dragonling...
::You continue to study this girl and her dragonling, who has now hatched compleatly. His wings are crystal-like and almost clear - very beautiful indeed. The girl notices you for the first time, and you start to run, fearful of the dragon and afrain you're acting rude. But she only smiles and says "It's okay, you don't have to run. Not if you don't want to." Her voice is silvery and beautiful, and she wears a wry grin on her face. She puts down the dragon and strokes his back, to show you he is harmless, and says: "My name is Caylana, but I prefer to be called Cay. I ran away from my family to join the secret and important duty of training and protecting dragons. That is all you need to know..." With that, she is gone...::

Quite a fright
Lady Katherine screeches and calls for a servant. This poor girl must have unknowingly picked up a dragon's egg and mistaken it for a lovely stone. But no! She seems not at all surprised by this young monster. "Dear, oh yes, you dear. Are you all right? Would you like some soup. How about a warm spot by the fire? If you'd like, you may keep your, er, pet with you. Does it eat? We really shall have to think of some place to take him. Well, let's get you fed first."

Looks suprised
Cay's eyes open wide at this older woman's reaction. She is a runaway, and hasn't been fussed about like this for many years. Hr time alone with the dragons has taught her much, and she is very cautious. "I thank you for your curtesy, my Lady, but I really must be going. I am sorry to appear before you in these rags, but they are the best clothes I own. And I also appologize for the dragon hatchling which I hold in my hands. He is called Zulii, and is the first ever I've had skill enough to hatch. I don't wish to cause trouble or give away the secrets of my Craft, so I really must be going..." Cay bows politely, her red hair falling in her face, and makes to run out the door...

Oh, don't be silly!
"Please, wait. I will not invade your privacy. Just warm yourself by the fire and let me tell you of our local news" "Let's see. My husband, the Lord Grey, brought those antlers on the wall over there last fortnight," Lady Katherine points, "And the goose's eggs have hatched into eight goslings. They are wonderful balls of fluff." "Yes, that's it Cay. Don't worry about me, I'm harmless. Please stay. It's too lonely here. Maybe you could night here. We'll see you off clean, fed, and rested in the morning." Cay slowly sets her dragon under a chair by the fire and sits down. She pulls a bit of string out of one of her many pockets for the little one to play with. "All right", she says to the Lady, "But just for one night. And you must let me help in the stables." The wise Lady agreed and said she would show them to her once she had eaten and fed her pet.

Zulii is amused...
Zulii, the little black dragon, plays contently with the string. He bats it about, and hardly notices Cay, chatting idly with the Lady Katherine. A small white kitten trots by on feathery paws, and he stars at it, little tail wagging like a dog. Cay stomps gently on his tail, just as he is about to give chace. He fights for a minute, then goes back to his string. Cay continues her cautious talk with the woman, trying not to show the fact that she's atill a bit fearful. The thought of food and clean clothes keeps her silent...

Delicious food!
After chatting for about 10 minutes, the plump cook comes out of a side door with a huge kettle of steaming soup. It fills the whole room with wonderful smells. The cook smiles widely at their pleased expressions and dispenses generous portions. Lady Katherine pretends not to noice Cay slipping bits of meat to the dragon. After eating, they have some of the cook's, Susantha's, famous cake. It is a rich vanilla with thick frosting. Both women savor the treat. At Cay's insistance, they go to look at the stables.

AHHHH! I seem to have lost several entries. We're working on this. Use your imagination or something...
A bath.
"Oh Cay, don't look so embarassed. I myself have no mother. She died in childbirth. My father is an old man who lives in a faraway manor. Now, you must be exhausted! Let's get you bathed and asleep." Katherine and Cay brushed their horses and entered a wide hall decorated with portraits. After several right turns they entered a plain room. It held a simple bed that had large fluffy pillows and a washing room. This surprised Cay, since there was actually a tub built into the wall. Two servants were carrying in steaming pails of water. Lady Katherine excused herself to take stock in the kitchen.
