The Mercia Legacy
A BRIEF INTRODUCTION

The Mercia Legacy is an independent Heathen group whose principles and beliefs derive from the Tribe of Mercia which operated in the West Midlands up until around 2002. As with the Tribe of Mercia our aim is to provide a point of contact in the West Midlands, to inform and enlighten both pagans and the public about Heathenry and allied issues.

The Mercia Legacy has links with the Pagan Federation, the Association of Polytheist Traditions, Heathens for Progress, and the email group UK Heathenry.

The aims of the Mercia Legacy are:

• Promoting Heathenry as valid and liveable faiths and philosophies.
• The promotion of Heathen culture, namely the worship of our deities, upholding the values of kinship and of family.
• spiritual development of the individuals that make up the membership of the Tribe.
• Educating those new to Heathenry, and the wider public, about our views, aims, philosophies and culture.
• Fostering positive contact between members of the Legacy, and other Heathen groups.

Our activities include:

Seasonal celebrations, observing and invoking Anglo-Saxon and Anglo-Nordic gods and goddesses, and working with landspirits. These are usually held outdoors, at various local sites.
Irregular meetings and socials, to discuss issues raised by those present, future plans, the merits of beer and kebabs, and the Tribe in general.

Our practices tend to be free flowing and open to group discussion, and all present are encouraged to participate. We have a robust, active philosophy and no sense of our own importance!

Membership is currently free and open to all who firmly believe, or those who wish to learn more, about Heathenry. We are nonpolitical and nonsectarian in our affairs.
