| Prone Position 1. Step 1 - Study charaacteristics of position a. Position of body * body lies facing target and angled slightly to left * left elbow is extended in front of body * right knee is bent slightly * rifle fore-end rests in left hand * right hand grasps rifle grip b. Position of the rifle * butt of stock is positioned against shoulder so rifle sights are at eye level 2 Step 2 - Practice position without the rifle a. simulate the firing position 3. Step 3 - Practice position with the rifle positioned against shoulder a. Hold rifle in both hands, move to firing point b. With rifle in the left hand, lower to knees c. Lower body to floor (prone position) d. Extend the left elbow forward e. Raise rifle to eye level and position against shoulder 4. Step 4 - Align position with target a. Vertical adjustments can be made by moving the left hand forward (lowers rifle) or to the rear (raises rifle) on the fore-end b. Horizontal adjustments can be made by rotating position left or right around the left elbow 5. Step 5 - Dry-firing at target 6. Step 6 - Shoot group at target with five ammunition Kneeling Position 1. Step 1 - Study characteristics of position a. Position of body * body sits on heel of right foot * lower left leg vertical * left elbow rests on left knee * rifle fore-end rests in left hand * right hand grasps rifle grip b. Position of the rifle * butt of stock is positioned against shoulder so rifle sights are at eye level 2. Step 2 - Practice postion without rifle a. Simulate the firing position 3. Step 3 - Practice position with rifle a. Hold rifle in both hands, move to the firing point b. Turn body to right of target c. Drop down onto right knee and sit on right foot d. Adjust left leg so that lower left leg is vertical e. Place left elbow on left knee f. Raise rifle to eye level and position against shoulder 4. Step 4 - Align Position with target a. Vertical adjustments can be made by moving left hand forward (lower rifle) or to the rear (raises rifle) on the fore-end b. Horizontal adjustments can be made by rotating the position left or right around the right foot 5. Step 5 - Dry-firing rifle at target 6. Step 6 - Shoot groups at target with live ammunition Clean Rifles |
