| Review Gun and Range Safety Rules Review Steps in Learning Position 1. Study position 2. Practice position without rifle 3. Practice position with rifle 4. Align position with target Free Arm Standing Position 1. Step 1 - Study characteristics of position a. Position of body * feet are shoulder width apart, body at right angle to the target * body weight is distributed equally on both feet * head and body are erect * left arm is free from body * left hand under fore-end supports weight of rifle *right hand grasps rifle grip b. Position of rifle * butt of stock is positioned against shoulder so rifle sights are at eye level 2. Step 2 - Practice position without the rifle a. Simulate the firing position 3. Step 3 - Practice position with the rilfle a. Hold rifle in both hands, move to firing point b. Turn so body is at a right angle to target c. Raise the rifle to eye level and position against shoulder 4. Step 4 - Align position with target a. Vertical adjustments can be made by simply lifting or lowering the rifle b. Horizontal adjustments can be made by moving the feet 5. Step 5 - Dry,fire rifle at target 6. Step 6 - Shoot groups at target with live ammunition Arm Rest Standing Position 1. Step 1 - Study characteristics of position a. Position the Body * feet are at a right angle to the target and shoulder width apart * body weight is distributed equally on both feet * body bends back at waist away from rifle * head is erect * left arm rests on side or hip * left hand supports the rifle - wrist is straight * right hand grasps the rifle grip b. Position of the Rifle * butt of stock is positioned against shoulder so rifle sights are at eye level 2. Step 2 - Practice the position without the rifle a. Simulate the firing position 3. Step 3 - Practice position with the rifle a. Hold rifle in both hands, move to firing point b. Turn so body is at a right angle to the target c. Grasps fore-end between thumb and fore finger of left hand with wrist straight d. Raise rifle to eye level and position against shoulder, resting left arm against body 4. Step 4 - Align position with target a. Vertical adjustments can be made by varying the position of the left arm against the body b. Horizontal adjustments can be made by moving the feet 5. Step 5 - Dry-fire at target 6. Step 6 - Shoot groups at target with live ammunition Clean Rifles |
