mercenary graphics artist gets seriously back to work.

Friends have noticed I've been updating my blogs sites, with my actual UC Riverside education, other schools, what I can put down briefly of my long job career, sometimes having jobs overlap, due to family business interests, opportunities, such as the original business, my sole proprietorship, filed on my personal tax return if I make money at it, as can't deduct expenses otherwise, or considered hobby, is Mercenary Graphics, the trade style I came up with at age 14, before I went to work at the Riverside Swim Club.

My education, includes a broad liberal studies education at UC Riverside, primary major, Economics, History, with minor in Urban Studies and Studio Art.  I was managing editor of the UCR Highlander, winner of the Columbia School of Journalism highest award, when I was on staff, and also ad manager, cartoonist.  Managing editor of the UCR undergraduate journal Dialectic, the Highlander Comic Books 1 and 2, and typesetter for my brothers chess column, the Chess Collegian, first project for Christiansen Brothers Publishing.

At CSU Stanislaus I added to that in Liberal studies, and took Real Estate management and practices classes with UC Davis Extension, and Modesto Junior College, later returning to MJC for interactive computer graphics, and computer literacy skills.

A member of the family Construction and Development business in 1970, I became president of Altamont Builders Inc, and Nesgren Corporation in 1986, and ran the company until family estate matters caused us to close the business. I was the general contractor license holder, project manager, and marketing manager for design build construction, steel buildings, commercial and residential development and construction.  Our holdings often in family trust or limited partnerships.

During the period 1985 to 1993, I was Vice President, and last managing officer of Bain Steel Co, Inc, a subsidiary affiliate Metal building erector sub contractor.  Mercenary graphics came into play with the closing of the company, as two of my watercolors settled some issues with my former partners lenders.

I've done a lot of things in my career, entering the work force as an employee for others, and self employed at promoting my original art and poster making skills at age 14.  I've had some set backs, yet I still have some health, own my home with a soon to be paid off mortgage, play music as well as do events, for fun, rarely for money.  Many of my projects in past three years have had to do with mental health issues, and non-profit volunteer capacity events, including my association with John Black and JB Presents.  John sometimes has me work tickets or as an assistant in his for profit events, including the Modesto Blues Festival.   I did the blues frog logo.

We're in a down real estate market, and with a big equity in my house, some in family qualified buyers with patience, and an old investor group to put back together, I'm studying the modesto residential and downtown commercial market.

Latest venture is an introduction to zero air pollution ZAP personal transporters as another project with JB  Presents special events, checking out by actual test of one of their products, and coming up with sales leads.  I've done a cd cover this year, a few concert posters, and some non profit not paid for items as usual. I blog at http://360.yahoo.com/jdc104 as my primary personal blog and art display area, similar to here, but a lot more of them, as I try and keep this site to business.

The Mercenary Graphics website is http://www.geocities.com/mercenary_graphics and it has ties to other business links I've worked with, or my own websites, business and personal, sometimes fantasy or hobby interests.  I like geocities as its easy to use, and free.

I am currently, since August a regular poetry contributor to http://www.theBlueDoodle.com under the banner Jim's musings, similar looking guy to the photo above this blog, and have a blog on myspace as well.  The main portfolio of what I've put up online, some or all copyrighted, or rights reserve, but not unaware of right click, copy and save, is at http://www.geocities.com/jdc104

The blues frog currently available at the September 2006 opened cafe press store, is a sample of what can be done, what products available, with any of my non nudes, general audience graphics, which if you find one you like on my website, could be special ordered, by email me here, and I have to adjust a photo of graphic to cafe press sizes, special photo shop for distortion compression issues, and using that web site, makes it easy for them to handle your money, I just get my cut if you buy a product with my store, my graphic art on it.  Saves on pay pal. Other products or services I do take checks, cash, may trade.
