Review by Jim Christiansen, Oct 10, 2006

A few weeks ago, happened to go to a blog, of a cartoonist in Pittsburgh, and laughed. Then got a bit further into the blog, laughed some more, and noted a contest, with a great freebie for a zine interested wannabe cartoonist like myself, Free comic book, simply review it online after reading.  Well, its for real, Northern sent it to me, and I'm smiling still from reading.  Cracked me up.

Northern Evans, self published, parental advisory of strong language, not for little kids, is funny.  The cover is right out of the genre of the underground comix I used to read long ago, shades of Robert Crumb.  Don Martin and Charles Schulz may be noted as inspirations, but you don't see smoking weed funnies like Northern's in their work.

Customer Service the inspiration of this Zine, on that usual fat broad in line, losing your job, coping with bombs and other scenarios that go with the job.  Would you smoke a joint with Northern and King and watch TV.  River Phoenix might.  The types of credit cards alone in Northern's Hemisphere worth the read, as also what's on ghetto TV.

The bus ride to check the weather and nice day status, is worth it to ride on into Northerns' world.  As a wannabe cartoonist myself, the drawings are great, the dialog fun, and worth the read.  Now I got in on the contest, paying my dues here to pay the bill for the freight and autograph of just one of Northern's works here, definitely in the mould of underground comix.

To get you copy, see the link posted to Northern, and check into it.  Its listed $5 on the cover.  You got to meet Mr. Hato, etc.  So kudos to Northern, who says started doing these in 1992 and ain't going to stop.  I'm glad.
