UCKNOW: The Principal of
King George’s Medical College Prof KM Singh on Friday formed a
four-member panel to investigate into the alleged question paper leak of
the All India Post Graduate Medical Entrance Examination and the role of
KGMC students in the entire controversy.
The decision was taken after the chancellor reportedly intervened and
called up Lucknow University vice-chancellor Prof SB Singh, who later
directed the KGMC authorities to come clear on the issue. The
examination was organised by AIIMS, New Delhi. It has been alleged that
the leaked papers were solved in KGMC hostels.
The panel comprises Dr OP Singh, Dr BK Singh, Dr VB Pratap and Dr SN
Kureel. While officially KGMC authorities maintained that the purpose of
the investigations would be probe involvement of KGMC students, insiders
said that the decision had been taken to clean up the KGMC image and not
actually to catch the culprits.
According to sources, the team has been assigned the task of collecting
data on the number of KGMC students qualifying All India Post Graduate
Entrance Tests in the last ten years. The team will also collect the
profile and other records of the students plus the facilities given in
the college so that it can prove that the “ALPGMEEE success” this
year was not just a matter of chance.
Prof KM Singh told reporters that KGMC’s name should not be involved
in the case as it had nothing to do with the conduct or organisation of
the examination. He said that he had learnt that in the past also KGMC
students had been qualifying with flying colours in AIPGMEEE.
“This year, as per rough estimates, over 500 KGMC students of the 1995
and 1996 batches plus those who had graduated in the past had applied
for the examinations, and it was a no big deal if 152 KGMC students
finally qualified in top 1421 selected,” he said.
