Singapura

Origin:

The Singapura, a breed of shorthair cat from Singapore, is the republic's official mascot. The Cat Fanciers' Association (CFA) gave the Singapura full recognition in 1988.It was once, however, known as the "drain cat" for its habit of lurking in big drains in the streets of Singapore. Two Americans helped to refined the Singapura in the 1970s after one of them discovered the breed while visiting Singapore and hence shipped four cats back to the United States.

Appearance:

The Singapura has a small - to medium sized , muscular body.Their legs are generally heavy and tapered thus give the breed a stocky appearance.Followed a short, thick neck, the Singapura has a round head and a well developed chin. And not forgetting their slender, medium to long tail with a blunt tip.

The Singapura has short and silky fur which lays close to the body. The cat's chin, chest and stomach are the colour of old ivory whereas the rest of the body has dark brown bands separated by lighter - coloured bands. The tip of the tail is generally dark , with the colour extending up the tail to the rump.

Characteristics:

This breed, eventhough looks kind of ordinary, it has over the years changed having a more defined colours and patterns on their coats.Like other cats, the Singapura is also playful and amiable with children and adults. It is also prove to be low maintenance cats as they are seldom fussy about their diet in general.
