| How Can I Improve My Paralanguage? | ||||||||||||
| Paralanguage is all of the communication that is not verbal. Such as movements, hands, posture, voice tone. | ||||||||||||
| Many people when speaking speak monotonely. Many stand still and stair at the floor or cieling. What does that tell the audience? If somebobdy doesn't smile or even move and talks with a monotone voice are you going to listen? I'm going to sleep myself. Also if he doesn't show that he is interested in the topic why should I be. | But if you get somebody that is up and moving speaking excitedly using examples and obviously happy about his topic I'm going to listen to see why he is so happy and why I should be. There is so much more to speaking than just the words that one uses. | |||||||||||
| In my opinion one of the biggest problems that all speakers face is not moving enough or moving to much. Using hand to emphasize the size or shape of something is a good idea. But being too often repeated an action can get quite annoying. What about a person that doesn't stop moving, a constant pace back and forth. Or a person who is so excited aboutt his topic that he jumps up and down. | ||||||||||||
| Have you ever watched yourself speak? Try it, I'll bet that if you watched yourself speak you would be able to see things that you didn't even know you did. I'd also be willing to doubt that you would instantly know what you do wrong and could improve on. When I taped myself I was suprised to see how tense I looked, I didn't appear to be enjoying myself at all, but in actuality I was haveing a blast. After reviewing myself I was able to see what I do wrong, and be more aware of them, and I can correct them. | ||||||||||||
