| What are the Most Common Logical Fallacies? | |||||||||||||||||||
| How about that word Fallacy. Despite the fact that I can barely say it the word actually represents a huge problem in modern day writing and speeking. | |||||||||||||||||||
| Fallacy: Defects in arguments that cause an argument to be invalid. |
|||||||||||||||||||
| Lets say that you thought you shouldn't have to clean your room. Lets also say that your mom wanted you to. Lets through into the mix that you acually were able to argue with your mom. Mom says "Clean your room", you say "No". She asks why and you say "Because the cat is blue". | |||||||||||||||||||
| Some of my favorite fallacies are the Strawman Fallacies, Red Herring Fallacies, and Slippery Slide Fallacies. If you are trying to argue that a person should not go to school, you might say that it is because they might get rained on and in hiding from rain get hit by car and by laying on the road get road burn that causes them to need skin grafts that lead to.... see the problem? Just because one goes to school doesn't nessicarily mean that they are going to get staff infection from skin grafts. This is a Slippery Slide Fallacy. |

| Exactly what does the cat being blue have to do with you cleaning your room? In the world of fallacies we would call the problem with your argument as Ignoratio Elenchi. Fancy words for Irrelevant conclusion | |||||||||||||||||||
| A Red Herring Fallacy is an argument that distracts from the original argrment. Such as: I know that they cat is blue, but if you hadn't bought the blue dye this never woule have happened. The fact that she bought the blue dye does not solve the problem that your 6 year old used the bottle to wash the kitty. | |||||||||||||||||||
| A Strawman Fallacy is an argument that restates the previous arguement but restates it in a distorted manner. "I dont understand why Matt wants to wrestle, I can't see why he wants to hurt me." Just because Matt wants to wrestle, does not mean he wants to hurt me. | |||||||||||||||||||
