The Kinkakuji or Golden Pavilion (above) was perhaps the most impressive thing I saw in Japan. The outer walls are covered in genuine gold leaf. When the sunset reflects off this, and the lake it guards, it takes your breath away. Below and to the right are pictures I took in the town of Nara. It was so misty that for most of the time this pagoda was blanketed. These monkeys ran around the town freely and loved eating what people dropped. Don't harass them though. A fellow classmate of mine was doused in monkey urine when he pestered one! |
