Truly a magnificent structure and symbol of power, St. Peter's Bassilica strikes me with a sense of awe and wonder. The light from the windows strikes the alabaster marble dove over the altar and is the immediate focal point in its cavernous structure. I have heard that on the vernal equinox (March 21st and also my birthday) the light radiates from this focal point in an impressive show of beauty and engineering. The first time I visited here was on March 20th...the day before my 16th birthday...just my luck that I missed that! |
