Can you show me how to do that?  Who taught you how to do your turban?  Hey Erykah!!!(Ugh!)

SISTAS!!!

To answer that question:

I don't know how I learned or how to tell you to do it because I just do it - with a t shirt, a skirt, a scarf, or actual material.

It's not a Erykah Badu thing - I was doing it before her, and if you doing it because of her influences she has impacted on this new "trend" . . .

don't.

Headwrapping is beautiful
Headwrapping is not because . . . you have a bad hair day.
Your hair is sacred, it is your ever growing knowledge.
Headwrapping requires a strong woman - you will get looks . . . you will get questions.

Headwrapping has evolved from galees - which our proud African American ancestors sported reguraly {to the point that the man of course put restraints on what style and kind of material they wore} representing what they had so terribly ripped from their arms - their heritage.

It does not matter if your hair is short but yes, long hair does help it stand a little higher.

NO NO NO
YOU DO NOT NEED BOBBY PINS!

For starters begin with a 1/2 to 1 yard of material.  You can buy African prints for as little as $4.50 to about $7.50 (for headwrapping - the higher the material you go into MudCloth, George, and so on are not for everyday wrapping).   The higher you want your wrap the longer you get.

Below is a drawing from
Anyiams Creations.  On step number five the piece sticking up in the hair can be stuck on wrapped to the side.  This is your basic wrap with probably 1 yard.

Oh and one more thing - if you're using African material . . . everything can not perfectly coordinate so be open minded.
