How to get publicity
|
There are many ways for a Mensa Special Interest Group to get publicity.
Special Interest Groups are not-for-profit, and they can accept both
Mensan and non-Mensan members (although non-Mensans can't vote in any "SIG
voting matters" if you have any). Keeping these things in mind, here's how
you can increase your membership.
Send SIG ads to the National Office! This is the best way. Create a 1" by 3" ad - include graphics, text, or whatever you wish - and send it with $1 to the National Office. They keep them until there are 8, then xeroxes and sends them out to every local newsletter editor. The newsletter editors often use them for filler when they have
blank spaces in their newsletters. It works rather well!
Write an article for the Mensa Bulletin! I know this sounds like a daunting task. It's not that hard, really. Write about one of the outings taken by your SIG. Or send in an article that talks about what your SIG is about. The Bulletin is actively looking for information on our SIGs, and the next article could be about you!
By the same token, write something for your local newsletter. I'm sure it would be more than happy to run a story about what your SIG is doing, or the people it's helping, or the types of things its members are up to. Let us know what successes you have!
Submit a "free membership" to an auction at an RG! You donate the value of the year's subscription, but lots of people will see your SIG and you also support whatever cause the auction is for (MERF, scholarships, etc.)
