| Special League Rules and Interpretations |
|
This league is a recreational league with emphasis on FUN FIRST. The following rules include the decisions made by the League Executive this year as well as those from previous seasons and were reviewed and approved again in 2006. All other rules are those found in this years Slo-Pitch Canada rule book. All teams play each other at least once and usually not more than twice. Teams play 8 visitor and 8 home games. Contact the League Convener for rule change suggestions to be considered in 2007. The pitched ball shall reach a minimum of six feet in height and unlimited maximum height. The ball may be pitched from any place on an imaginary line from home plate to second base. To score at home plate, the foot (or other body part) must be on the ground on the line or behind the line extended from first base beyond the plate to the fence, before the ball is caught by the catcher. A player running for a batter from the fence must touch the fence at the place where an imaginary line reaches the fence extending from third base to home plate. A lead off (leaving before the ball is hit) from the fence will be an out. Barring a running injury, a courtesy runner may not be replaced. Players may be of either gender but must attain fifteen years of age during the year 2006. Regular players are eligible in the calendar year in which they turn 30 years of age. Any number of younger players under age 30 can be on the roster for any game but only four* players can be in the infield or outfield during the inning. *A fifth player under age 30 is allowed on the field providing that they are playing either in the catcher or pitcher positions. Players under age 30 will be identified on the score sheet for every game for the benefit of the other team. Short Handed Rule: Teams may start a game with a minimum of eight (8) players. However, an out shall be declared when the nineth position in the line-up is scheduled to bat. A nineth player may be added to the nineth position any time before the end of the game. Any team that starts a game with nine or more players may drop to the minimum of eight players to finish the game. All vacant spot(s) in the line-up will be declared an out every time that line-up position is due to bat. A team may not add extra player(s) at a later time. Any player that leaves the game for any reason may not return to the game. If a player is ejected from the game for any reason leaving the team with less than eight players, the ejected player's team must have a substitute available to replace the ejected player or that team will forfeit the game. Exception: A player, who has left the game under the blood rule, may return. Substitutions: Any player in the batting order may be replaced during any stoppage of play with a legal rostered player not already in the batting order. Each starting player may re-enter the game once in the same position in the batting order. Substitutes must be listed on the lineup card. Blood Rule When the batter runs to first, he may overrun first base and safely return to the base provided he does not try to advance to second base. A runner is out, and the ball is dead if: Commitment Line - A line in foul territory drawn 21 ft from the back of home plate and perpendicular to the third base line. When a runner crosses this line by touching the ground beyond the line but does not reach home plate, he shall be called out when the ball is legally held by a defensive player in contact with home plate. Runners, who have not crossed the line or who cross the line but must tag up on a caught fly ball, may return to third base. Sliding into home plate is not allowed. The runner is out if he touches home plate whether or not a play is being made. A runner is not out if the plate is touched in an attempt to avoid a collision. Players must have played in at least 6 regular season games to qualify for the final tournament. (includes defaults caused by the opposing team but not rainouts) Run limit per inning is eight runs. (Last inning is open - no limit.) |
