Mendez on stage

With a young, entuiastic publik and the chilenian flag blowing in the front of his eyes Mendez got a great start in his show in Diezel last Friday.

The first time I met the swedish-chilenian rapper Mendez was bubbling with energy and was proforming almost aggresive a ruugh and hard take of the always popular ”Estocolmo”. Under these few years since then shave Leopoldo Jorge Mendez Alcayaga, as his mother calls him, change from being just a little rebelic and tough southamerican to be a kind of a nice swedish latinpopartist.

With the swedish dance musicwonder's creator, Rob & Raz, as musical motors he has worked out a radiofriendly an latincolored musicmix that have showed up to be a very effectiv and progressive and that eveb took Mendez to a second place at the swedish eurosong earlier this year.

Waving flag

When Mendez enters Diezel's stage by the river is it the sound from the speedy breakthroughsingel ”Chiki-chiki” that after a little noice from the audience fast goes over to the just as speedy ”Fiesta (House party)”, which he among other managed to put up to the first place in his homecoutry Chile's toplist. To his joy he can also see a chilenian flag waving among the audience, which seemed to give him a little extra.

Surprisingly Mendez has a whole sixmensband with him, complete with horns, spanish guitar, song, drums ohis brother Marcelo as DJ. Together they play tight and loudly and with help from Diezel's soundsystem it sounds almost like it would in a studio. And that is actually a weakness.

The following songs, ”Second coming”, my favorite ”Estocolmo”, ”No criminal” and ”Blanca”, were played in versions that sound almost like in Mendez' album. Ofcourse it sounds proper and competent, but also pretty sad. In concerts you want something extra, something that shows up a little. Not only a nice reproduction of the studioversions.

Shows tatoos

Though the music stops no one can explain why Mendez suddenly takes time to write autographs while heæs standing on the stage, which was popular among the yough Diezel-visitors. Mendez also remembers to say thanks for the votes he got in the eurosongshow before he accompended by the audiance ovations gives the hit ”Adrenaline” a kickstart, and live the song gets more speed and beats. But after this Mendez and his band surprisingly leaves the stage after just 30 minutes. The party's over.

But the band returns to the obligatory extranumber which was the big hit ”Razor tongue”. Mendez uses the chance to show to audience his tatoos before he, to the joy for the audience, kisses the one who brought the chilenian flag.
