How Mendez Got A Contract...

Mendez and his wife, Ninoska, didn't have much money. When their daughter Stephanie was born they had to get money from the social welfare to manage their daily life. It was hard for Mendez to get a real job. First he did a lot of cleaning and steadying jobs. To get a real job he had to have certificate, have experience from another job for at least a year or had gone some special class. Mendez had neither. At last he got a job as a warehouse assistant in Toys'R'Us in 1998.

One day he saw Robert Wĺtz, Rob in the producer-duo Rob'N'Raz, in the shop. He was there to buy christmaspresents with his family. Mendez knew who he were and thought 'Now's my chance'. He went stright to Robert and said: 'Hey Robbie, it's Leo.' 'Do we know eachother?' was the answer he got. 'Yeah, don't you remember,' said Mendez, 'we met in a DJ-competition were you were in the jury...' It was all lie, ofcourse. After a little explanation Mendez got to the point. He told Rob that he was working on a demo and asked Robert for the number to the recordstudio. He got it. Mostly because Robert wanted to get rid of him. After a while was the first single 'Chiki-Chiki' finnished. Made by Mendez, Rob'N'Raz and Gustav Johnson. Chiki-Chiki was Mendez' debutsingle and also his ticket to a contract, that he got with Stockholm Records. In 1999 came the second single 'Estocolmo'. They were both hits, but the big break-through didn't come before 2000 with his single 'Razor Tongue' which made the swedish Top-10 and also had succes in other contries. The same year came his debutalbum: Latino For Life.
