Itanza Wooden is a native Floridian.
She relocated to New York City two years ago. Itanza has traveled extensively
throughout the East Coast and Midwest doing regional theatre. She has performed
in 7 states and done over 40 productions. She got her start of course in her
home state of Florida where she attended the University of Florida and received
her BFA in Musical Theatre Performance. Some of her first roles were in shows
such as Baby, Company, Godspell, Much Ado About Nothing and
Cabaret. She got her first production credit when she mounted a production
of A…My Name is Alice which was continually mounted and moved from a 45
seat venue to 90 seats and eventually into a 350 seat house. After college
Itanza began her professional career at the Hippodrome State Theatre where she
performed And the World Goes Round. She then traveled to Indiana and
starred in Big River and Young Abe Lincoln at the Lincoln
Amphitheatre. She returned to Florida and starred in South Pacific as Bloody
Mary in Jacksonville, FL. Her travels were just beginning, going from Miami to
Connecticut to Illinois, South Carolina, back to Indiana and again throughout
Florida from West Palm Beach, Gainesville, Ft. Lauderdale and Orlando. Some of
her favorite roles include Calpurnia in To Kill A Mockingbird, Amiens in
As You Like It, Crystal in Little Shop of Horrors, Nell Carter in
Ain’t Misbehavin’ and Jewel in Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.
Itanza is especially proud of her 2 years spent at the Walt Disney World Resort
in Orlando, FL where she created the role of Zawadi in the Festival of the
Lion King at Disney’s new theme park Animal Kingdom.
This gave Itanza the
opportunity to appear on the Regis and Kathy Lee show and numerous other ABC
specials including Disney’s annual Christmas and Thanksgiving Day Parades as
well as numerous television commercials including National Rental Car and
McDonalds. She then made the move to New York City to continue to pursue her
dreams of continuing to produce and perhaps to one appear on Broadway. Since
moving to New York she has done a few gigs around town. Most recently she
appeared in “Women’s Voices from Union Square” at the Lower East Side Tenement
Museum. This is her first cabaret show and she is delighted to be able to
perform with friend Diane Bearden. A big up to friend Peter Zachari for all of
his help.
