Cerebral cortex :

Four poorly defined layers may be differentiated.

1. Molecular or plexiform layer-consists of pyramidal cells, cajal cells, myelinated nerve fibers, glial cells etc.

2. Small pyramidal cell layer- the small pyramidal cells known as Martinotti's cells.

3. Large pyramidal cell layer- they give origin to the fibers of the pyramidal motor pathways.

4. Layers of polymorphous cells- also called the granular layer.

Cerebellum:

1. The outer molecular layer- consists of multipolar nerve cell (which is peripheral small cortical cells and the deeper large cortical cells) commonly called basket cells. Purkinje cells also present in this layer.

2. The ganglionic layer-consists of purkinje cells, which are large pyriform nerve cells.

3. Granular layer-neuroglial cells, purkinje cell axons which have acquired a myelin sheath.
