Another game, another draw. Old Bhoys tied Survivors 2-2 in a back and forth match. Old Bhoys took a 1-0 lead on a rebound goal by Scott Melton early in the half. Survivors had the better of play in the 1st half and took a 2-1 lead into halftime, although Old Bhoys missed a PK that would have tied it going into halftime. Old Bhoys had the better of play in the 2nd half and equalized about 10 minutes into the 2nd half. Eric Bran knocked in a rebound off the Survivors keeper. Old Bhoys had a few more chances in the half, but couldn't find the winner.
United Old Bhoys finally got the first win in team history on Sunday against the Colts. Old Bhoys went up 1-0 late in the first half on a goal by John Bran. In the second half John scored another and Steve Hellen added one to make the final score 3-0. Curt Rogers wasn't as busy in the goal during this match, but made a couple of good saves to preserve his first clean sheet of the season.
For the first time this season, United Old Bhoys scored more than one goal during a game. However, for the third game in a row, the result was a tie. After going up 2-0 in the first half - on goals by Jim Caradonna and Eric Bran, United Old Bhoys struggled in the second half and allowed the Colt 45s to tie the game on two well struck goals. The breaks between games (17 days) and lack of subs led to some tired legs in the second half. Curt Rogers came up with some big saves late in the second half to preserve the tie.
Second game, same as the first. United Old Bhoys finished our second game in team history by coming from behind again to draw 1-1. Desoto United went up 1-0 in the first half on a PK after a foul in the box. The game stayed that way until the last minute of the game when Tim Gruber ran onto a John Bran through ball and poked the ball past the Desoto keeper. Desoto had most of the scoring chances in the game with Curt Rogers coming up big in goal, again, to give us a chance to tie it in the end. Man of the match honors definitely go to Curt.
United Old Bhoys finished their first game ever with a 1-1 draw with Fury 90. The 16-year old Fury players ran, and ran, and ran some more. Fury went up mid-way through the first half on a nice shot from right outside the box. Curt made a good attempt at the save, but the shot was well placed in the top corner. The Old Bhoys defense held solid after that score and limited Fury to a few shots on goal for the remainder of the game. Old Bhoys tied the score at the beginning of the second half after a handball in the box gave Old Bhoys a PK. Eric Bran stepped up and scored from the spot. That was Eric's first goal for Old Bhoys and goal number 42 overall for both Memphis United and Old Bhoys. Eric played for Memphis United from 1998-2001. Curt Rogers made a great save in the closing moments of the game to keep the score level. Old Bhoys are still trying to learn to play together, but this first game was a positive result.
