Memphis Roots won the Southern Country 'Band of the Year' in 1993, that same year they became the resident dance band at Pontins Country Music Weeks. The task of keeping a multitude of dancers happy was not an easy one, and word soon spread abouts the bands unparalleled capability in this area of entertainment - few bands could keep up with, let alone deliver performances of modern material as well as Memphis Roots, and organisers along with their patrons were well aware of this.
The lads were proud to have reached Number #1 in the budget charts in the summer of 1997.
First class backing has been afforded to visiting American artistes such as Joe Sun, Pinto Bennett, Benny Berry, Judy Lindsey, Gary Lumpkin and Connie Lee Stich, and the fabulous fiddle player and vocalist John Permenter.
The band have also appeared at concerts with Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Jerry Lee Lewis, David Allan Coe, Bobby Bare, Daniel O'Donnell, Dominic Kirwin and Hank Wangford, and for Martina McBrides first UK visit, the promotor booked Memphis Roots to ensure some friendly and familiar faces would greet the audience. |
