Site Viewing Tips

General:

We are proud to announce that memphisevans.com is now AD-FREE. So to all those PC users who once fled I say, "Come back! It doesn't suck anymore!" and also "You're Welcome."

(note: no longer relevant content to follow) Holy smokes! I just looked over and altered the site on Mac OS X and it works GREAT! It's ad-free for some reason. I apologize to my Windows viewers, but on the other hand, you should really get a Mac. (end n.l.r.c)

Contact information:

All e-mail addresses to memphisevans.com staff are written with spaces and the word "at" instead of no spaces and the symbol. This is because the entire internet is frequently scanned for addresses and spam is automatically sent to those addresses. Memphis wishes to avoid receiving (or sending) spam. (7/03)

Obnoxious Ads:

(note: memphisevans.com is now ad-free, but this is still marginally amusing, if no longer real-world applicable)

I could spend a bunch of money and get a site host with no pop up ads. But all you have to do is minimize the ad window.

In Mac OS 9 or older, when the first ad (featuring Britney Spears, Ben Affleck, etc.) pops up, DON'T CLOSE IT. Minimize it by double clicking the bar at the top of the ad window (OS 9 or later) or by clicking the window shade at the top left. All future ads will "pop up" in this minimized window. You'll just have to click once on the large, unminimized window - the one featuring the relatively meaningful content provided here at memphisevans.com - to make it the active window. Suave, internet savvy guy that I am, I learned this trick by watching my girlfriend do it.

I suppose there is something equivalent that non-Mac users could do to solve this problem as well, but probably the best solution is to buy a Mac.

Listening to free music at mp3.com:

mp3.com went under, but this is still funny, if no longer real-world applicable:

I respectfully suggest that when the inevitable mp3.com "registration" page pops up, you use a fake name, fake e-mail, and tell them you are from Uzbekistan. The site will work just as well as it would if you gave them your real information and received a bunch of future spam.
