About MemoriesAgo - How We Got Started

One weekend, when my granddaughter, Cassy spent the night with us, she said that she wanted pancakes for breakfast. Since I've never been one to buy those frozen things at the grocers, I proceeded to make them from my mother's old, old receipe.

Coming into the kitchen, Cassy was agast at what was in the bowl. "Ewwwww...grandma, what IS that!?" "Well, I'm making you pancakes. Isn't that what you wanted?" Without hesitation, she exclaimed, "I've never had those kind before! We get ours at the store (in the frozen food isle)!" I said, "Well, you're in for a treat then." She wasn't sure she wanted to try them but after convincing her they were better than frozen, she took a bite and her eyes went wide. "These are GOOD! And they don't fall apart!" she practically yelled at me. I believe she ate four full size pancakes that morning. After that, she started in with all sorts of questions about what else I could cook. I proceeded to tell her about the "good ol' days" when everything we ate was homemade. She couldn't believe that there hadn't always been pancakes or waffles in a mix or in the freezer section. Even more shocking to her is that my grandmother actually had to kill a chicken for our Sunday meal! "There were NO Kentucky Fried Chicken back then?" I had to laugh.

For the rest of her stay, she asked question upon question about the past. She sat in bewilderment and was surprised, if not shocked, to hear about things that used to be. It was an awakening for her but a trip down memory lane for me that weekend..
So....
It is my first born granddaughter who inspired

It was that weekend, that I decided to put all of those stories (and others) together for other kids to read about. I'm convinced other children will be just as interested as she has been.
I wondered just how many other kids further into the future would be even MORE shocked!
