ADMISSION

Policy

1.1 The Portsmouth School Committee recognizes that the existence of a Pre-One Program is a desirable goal; as a result, based on student population, financial and physical constraints, the School Committee may offer a Pre-One Program in various elementary schools.

1.2 Children who have attained or will have attained six (6) years of age on or before December 31 of any school year, and whose measured developmental age is less than 6 by September of that year, and are recommended by the building Principal shall be eligible to attend Pre-One during the days that the public schools are in session during said year.

1.3 Upon the recommendation of the building Principal and approval of the Superintendent, any child new to the school system who has attained or will have attained the age of six (6) on or before December 31 may be admitted, with parental permission, to the Pre-One Program either upon registration or within one month of entrance into the Portsmouth School System.

1.4 Upon the recommendation of the building Principal and approval of the Superintendent, any child enrolled in Grade One in the Portsmouth School System may be transferred, with parental permission, to the Pre-One Program no later than the end of the first quarter of the school year.

All children registered for Pre-One must have submitted by their parents/guardians a birth certificate or other evidence of the child's birth date and health immunization records as required by the State Department of Health.
