Annual Report Front Cover   ANNUAL REPORT

Actual size: 630 X 297mm, 1 Colour, 3 fold Annual Report.
Plus an A4 double-sided insert.

I aimed to portray a modern and developing community counselling service that keeps itself up-to-date with the constantly changing and growing needs of the Waterloo community.

Photography

I had researched and generated the photographs, bearing many factors in mind for this annual report.

The use of photographs of London Eye (Millennium Wheel) and Barley Mow Clinic puts the viewer in a context from the outset. The London Eye, as a landmark to many, represents tourists/foreigners and Londoners. In a way, it also shows a birds-eye view of a modern society with movement and action.

The photographs of The Barley Mow Clinic within the London Eye, informs us that besides all that beauty, attraction and hustle and bustle of London, there is a need for counselling; and there is Waterloo Community Counselling, right at the heart of The London Eye.

The panoramic photograph of the Waterloo area with the train station in the background, which covers the whole of the inside page, also helps the reader to put all the information in context.

Iconic Information (The statistics page, A4 insert)

It is particularly important to be impartial and neutral while creating icons for a service like counselling. While I worked on the creation of those icons I didnt want to misrepresent any individuals or groups.

  • Relationship: I tried to represent any individual who are in a relationship, whether they are heterosexual, homosexual or bisexual. There is no indication of the sexual preferences on the icon that I created for this subject.
  • Ethnicity: The tree has lots of branches and roots. The branches represent growth, and richness. The roots however, give us a different message. Although the roots all come from the different directions, they are all attached to the same earth and they are part of the same tree, just like humans.
  • Referral Route: The use of a traffic information sign indicates the various routes people are referred to without being too specific.
  • Borough of Residence: I created a small and simplified map of the London Boroughs that showed postal areas e.g. SW, SE, W, N.
  • Gender: I represent gender with a common sign that we are all familiar with.
  • Employment status: Someone sitting in front a computer portraying a modern society is deliberately ambiguous. It may well mean employed/unemployed, student, or anyone mentioned on that section of the statistics page.
