Research Interests: I became interested in the political philosophy of Eric Voegelin at Louisiana State University studying with Professor Ellis Sandoz, who is the only American to have received his doctorate studying with Voegelin in Germany and Sandoz is the director of the Eric Voegelin Institute. This interest in Voegelin has brought me to the University of Hawaii to study with Manfred Henningsen, one of Voegelin's German students. I am also interested in political philosophy from the ancient Greeks to people writing today and the failed Freak Power movement of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson. A recent paper I wrote about Leo Strauss' 1948 book, On Tyranny, as a starting point to try to come to grips with totalitarian regimes of terror is under review at the journal Interpretation.
Research Approach: When doing political theory, I am devoid of presuppositions about method. I believe you must start with experience and let the experience guide you to choosing a proper method(s) to create a representation of experiential reality, remembering of course that your representation only imperfectly corresponds to the reality you are trying to describe.
