| This unique natural site is loacted on the Ragged Islands of Melrose. A spounting water wonder, the blow hole is a site to withhold...very much like a whale coming up for air! Warning: Very dangerous, be careful!! |
| Exploring this area you get a unique side view of the islands, as you explore further you get a closer look at the islands. Enjoy remnants of old houses and fishing grounds at the beautiful site of the Wall. Located at the farthest end of Melrose this place is a treasure to explore for anyone interested in the people of the past. Along ago one could see horse and carriages riding back and forth the gravel roads. What capitivates the mind is the remaining ground foundations of a very old house. Inside this foundation lay an old potbelly stove and many other old items if you look hard enough (watch for glass). Get people to tell you stories of horses and buggies, and the old houses. Enjoy an adbandoned fishing stage, one of the few fishing stages that remain in this area. Once used as a cleaning and storing area for cod, this stage is a true tribute to the fisherfolk of long ago. However, this is not the only stage in Melrose -- one more is located in the middle of the community. For anyone interested in the fishery of the past these stages are a real treat. (Do not get on them as they are old). |
| Hidden Grave Yard For the ghost fanatic this place offers a wonderful opportunity to get a fright all the while exploring the history of the people of the past. Uncover the hidden headstones of years ago. Ask older adults who these people are--you may just discover these people are your relatives. Or if there is a name on a headstone nobody seems to know, maybe you can solve the mystery of who that person is! Ask somebody who knows the location to bring you -- I will not say where it is located as it is right behind somebody's house and I do not want to scare them -- hey, it could be your house! *** Please show respect for the many old and very fragile headstones*** |
Melrose is surrounded by ragged islands and hidden shoals. These characteristics created over time gives Melrose a unique attraction that few places in our area have -- the Ragged Islands off our shores. Beatiful green islands located off our shoreline, these islands are a great day gettaway! Ideal for a Sunday BBQ or a campout for the brave at heart. While on the islands enjoy a unique view of Melrose. As you are surrounded by ocean waters and ocean breezes look to the glowing lights of our house or look to the busy people of our commnity and feel safe! Years ago our grandparents and great grandparents would visit these islands on Sundays and pick blackberries -- visit these islands and capture some of the fun they used to have! |
