Children's Playground -- it looks a lot different than when I was young, but it's still a fun place for kids to go!
The carosoual at Children's Playground, apparently during renovation -- I'm happy to say it's going strong once again!
The old De Young Museum (and part of the Music Concourse) -- the way I remember it...
The California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park -- which no longer exists. All that's left is the wall to the right of this picture. (This building contained the aquarium, museum of natural history, museum of science and the planetarium)
Portals of the Past -- what's left of an old mansion by the lake, called "Portals of the Past" in Golden Gate Park -- one of my favorite lakes in the park to hang out at
Big Rec -- where I used to go as a teenager to watch the cute guys play baseball
Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park which thankfully still does exist!
Yes, there really are buffalo in the middle of Golden Gate Park!
The "Sharon" Building behind Children's Playground -- where Art Classes are still taught to this day. I took some art classes here as a kid -- most of the kids in the neighborhood did -- and back then, they were all free. The grass in front of the Sharon Building is the beginning of the "Hippie Hill" area.
the Music Concourse as it used to be -- now it's all roped off
Golden Gate Park is full of lakes -- this is Stow Lake, which existed even when most of Golden Gate Park was sand dunes in the 1800s. People rented row boats there, rowing around Strawberry Hill. When I was a kid, you could also rent peddle boats, electric boats, etc., and you still can to this day. My friends and I spent loads of time at this lake and Strawberry Island in the middle.
One of the many fields in Golden Gate Park where we played...
The Japanese Tea Garden is a cool place that still exists as well (next to the DeYoung Museum) -- I have many fond memories of sipping on Jasmine tea and eating Japanese cookies, watching the goldfish swim in the ponds -- wondering if those huge goldfish were perhaps the ones we'd let go in the ponds when I was a kid.

Inner Sunset District around where I grew up -- that huge building on the hill is UC San Francisco -- we lived below it right at the edge of Golden Gate Park, walking distance to Children's Playground, the museums, etc. (or bike riding or skateboarding distance
