Toekenke Road Race
report by Al and Mike M.

Mike and Al represented AFD at Toekenke this weekend.  Unfortunately for Mike, he flatted which made for a long hard training day in the saddle as he never got back on after a wheel change.
As for Big Al, he battled for a top placing.

I felt pretty strong from the start, especially on the early climbs.  Peter Sleight (EuroTEK), Randy and a Bethel guy were all active right from the start and I made sure to stay with any of them when they went up the road.  We lost a lot of guys the first time up the big climb.  Randy attacked over and over again and finaally, with about 8 to go, he went hard on a downhill, and nobody followed but me.  We got a pretty good gap.  Sean Groom (Coppi) came across it and we worked well together.  We kept our gap on the big downhill, and at the bottom of the climb we heard that we had 50 seconds.  We started up the climb together and about half way up, Sean attacked.  Randy and I couldn't follow him and he stayed away to win.  At about 200m to go, Skip and Art Podgorski (Cyclonauts) came past me, but I held on for 5th.  All in all, a good day.
