Adelphia Grand Prix
report by Mike C.

As usual, the frost heaves were all over the place on a sunny afternoon in Plymouth.  Mike C., Bill, Woulfie and Jon lined up in the Master's race.  Bill began attacking the hill each lap and succeed in breaking up the group a couple of times, but the lack of wind brought the straggler's back each time.  Jon was usually about 3rd to 5th up the climb each time and I was about a few back of him.  In a couple of instances, I attacked before the climb and was caught near the top.  None the less, I never had to work after the hill because I was always with the main group.  Jim said he lasted about 7 of 10 laps and couldn't close a gap with three to go.  He was happy and looked to do better next race.
Bill was pretty spent from all the attacking and was a tired puppy leading into the sprint.  On the last lap, I was trying like mad to move up, but lacked the balls to force my way.  I let Jon through and he weaved through the field with skill that I could only admire.  I moved about and shot up on the right side when an opening appeared on the backside, but four others also had the same idea as me and a couple of guys went off the road.  As the downhill came, I was way out of position and pretty much out of it and rode in.  Jon got 5th place and Bill thought he flatted and rolled in back of the pack.  I probably finished about 20th and didn't make the cover of SI for my performance.
