I got the idea for these bookshelves from Jim Trelease's website . This was an idea that has been done in many schools, and I thought why not in the boys' bedrooms? We started with a 10 foot piece of white plastic gutter and 9 brackets from our local Home Depot. Bo cut the gutter into two 4' pieces and one 2' piece. The 4' pieces just fit best on Colin's wall. We had Colin stand against the wall to determine the best placement, and then put the remaining 2' in our bathroom. We spent about $20 for materials, and it took Bo about 30 minutes to complete the project -- including cutting and attaching to the wall. Nate is the only boy in this picture, because when I wanted to take the picture, Colin was outside helping Daddy with a new project.
