I was born on Tuesday, November 14, 2000 at 6:43 PM at the Paradise Valley Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona.
My mom woke up around 4AM and realized her water broke. Mom & Dad got to the hospital around 7AM,
and the nurses thought I would be born by 2 or 3 in the afternoon. I had different ideas, however. Around 5:30,
Mom had been pushing for 3 hours and I still wasn't being born. Mom started running a fever and
my heartbeat started to drop, so Dr. Schlecht said "We need to do an emergency c-section. Melanie,
you can stop pushing." Mom says that was pretty hard to do and she thought they were all crazy.
The c-section was performed, and I was born! The next morning around 5AM Mom was
up and walking, which amazed the nurses. (Or at least they told her they were amazed) While in
the hospital, Mom kept getting in trouble for falling asleep with me in her bed. The nurses wanted
me to be in the bassinet or in the nursery if she fell asleep. On Friday, November 19, we got to
go home!
