This tutorial is using WS_FTP, you can download it on Kazaa or Downloads.
If you getting hosted or have a domain you will need to know how to use FTP. When you get hosted and it says you must know FTP on the requirements that means you must know how to do it all. If your using geocities or a free server you right click the view link and save target as and transfer over or save your pages into notepad and save as a .html.
FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. That's what it does,It transfers files between your computer to the internet. Theres lot of different ftp programs to use but this tutorial is how to use ftp in ws_ftp.
After you have downloaded the program and installed it open it up.
A window will pop-up with spaces for host name,id name and password etc
*If your hosted your host should have given you the info for the spaces or if its your own domain your should have gotten the info in an email or something*
In HOSTNAME put ftp.sitename.com --> in UserID put either your username if its your own domain or for example split-personality.com/sweetie or something. Your host will give you what to put there if your hosted! And then in PASSWORD you put your password..Then simply hit connect!
Once its done there will be two sides. The LEFT side is the files on your computer and the RIGHT is the files on your website. And in the middle is UPLOAD & DOWNLOAD buttons.
On the RIGHT side you can go to the file where ur site files you saved are and press the TOP/Upload arrow to transfer your files over to your site *if it says overwrite you click yes*. To transfer files from your site to your computer files just click the middle button the greenarrow that says DOWNLOAD when you hover it.
And thats bascially it for FTP.
