Mario's Return, Saturdays Vs. Detroit
Highlight St. Louis Blues
2001-2002 Schedule
ST. LOUIS, July 11, 2001 - An early season Saturday night game at home vs. Mario Lemieux and the Pittsburgh Penguins and three Saturday home games vs. Detroit highlight the St. Louis Blues’ 2001-2002 schedule.
In all, 19 of the Blues’ 41 home games will be played on weekend dates or during the holiday week between Christmas and New Year’s Day. The schedule features two five-game homestands, including one exclusively against Western Conference rivals in April during the final two weeks of the season.
Highlights of the 2001-2002 Blues home schedule include:
The Blues will open their 35th anniversary season in the NHL on Thursday, Oct. 4, at Columbus and play their home opener one week later on Thursday, Oct 11, vs. the Los Angeles Kings. The Oct. 11 home opener will be 35 years later to the date when the Blues played their NHL game, Oct. 11, 1967, vs. the Minnesota North Stars.
Mario Lemieux will make his first visit to Savvis Center since December 19, 1996, when his Pittsburgh Penguins visit on Saturday, Oct. 20.
The Blues will play four winter holiday home games: Thanksgiving weekend on Saturday, Nov. 24, vs. Phoenix, and three games after Christmas - Wednesday, Dec. 26, vs. Chicago; Friday, Dec. 28, vs. Toronto; and Sunday, Dec. 30, vs. Nashville.
The Detroit Red Wings will play three Saturday games at Savvis Center during the second half of the season - an evening game on Jan. 26 and afternoon games on March 9 and April 13. The April 13 game will be the first contest in a season-ending, home-and-home series vs. Detroit.
The two home appearances by the Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche will also come late in the season, Monday, March 11, and Sunday, April 7.
