This is truly outstanding. A great image, one rich with explicative possibilities, and your explication is superb. It's well-written, thorough, and the humor you inject ("kicking demon booty," etc) go along way with the reader. You've done an excellent job working through the images, cropping here and there to give us a close up or to isolate a participant. And I love how you've sorted through the relation of the title to the image. How does silence howl? A powerful question: your answer helps solve this. Similarly, it's good you brought up the whole Xena-esque, warrior babe, issue. Certainly it's unavoidable, but your discussion helps get the reader past the T and A and into the complexities of the image. (Looking at Royo's site, he seems to have a thing for the warrior babe, no?). And I agree with your comment about the image map and the "you are here" (which adds more humor I'll add). Also, your point about the demon claws being turned in, not at the warrior babe is brilliant. I hadn't noticed this before, but it fits very well into your explication. This is very well-written too. Here's the only typo I've found:
"The woman is bathed in a white light and the incense censers give off a bluish-white smoke, whereas the demons are dark and shadowy" Put a semi-colon before whereas and a comma after it. It's a comma splice as it is.
Tech-wise I'm also impressed. Cross-browser compatible, elegant design, and the enlarged images are great. A couple things: first, with the enlargements, sometimes it's nice to get these in a separate, new window. To do so, in the <a href> add this: target="_blank" and you'll get the new window. In terms of image manipulators, you might take a look at the GIMP. It's a free, shareware program similar to PSP. It's already on the machines in 076 if you want to check it out.
So, great work on this. Keep it up. 10 points. Thanks Melanie.
