Self Evaluation
What are the strengths of the project?
- I really liked the way my image map turned out. Gimp kept crashing on me after I blurred the background, and I got frustrated with having to keep downloading more image manipulators, so I just stuck with MS Paint. It's rudimentary, but at least I know it works ;) To make the links, I used HomeSite.
- I like the colors, it's decidedly cheerier than my previous sites.
- I think I did a pretty good job with covering a lot of information.
- The comics are cute and relevant and really drive points home.
- I've finally mastered the whole "popping up a new page" thing! Woo hoo!
- The "Back to the Top" links at the bottom of the pages.
- The neato A:Hover command. Unfortunately, this doesn't work in Netscape, and I can't figure out why.
What are the weaknesses?
- Some of the content is kinda cheesy.
- Lots of pop-ups might distract readers, but I couldn't resist. I thought the comics really brought some of the points home.
- It's kinda annoying how clicking on the pop-ups causes the page to go to the top, but I couldn't figure out how to make it stop doing that. I fiddled, but nothing worked, so I left it.
- I couldn't get the paws that were under the table to work correctly in Netscape. I tried, I really did, but I just couldn't get it to work. This is really frustrating because I thought it was such a neat idea...
- I also couldn't get the A:Hover command to work in Netscape. It passed all the W3C validators, but didn't work for some reason.
What I liked about the assignment?
- It was fun researching the subject matter.
- It gave me an excuse to rifle through my comics, hee hee.
- Seeing everything come together in the end was very satisfying.
- Being able to remember tags finally!
- This may bloody well prove that I do have artistic skills. In
my
family, I am by far the least artistic. Hopefully this website redeems me
a bit ;) Especially the image map!
What was challenging and difficult?
- Making the image map!
- Making the paws that go under the table work in Netscape. Try as I did, I couldn't get the stupid thing to work. Extremely frustrated, but I liked the idea too much to scrap it.
- Writing all of the content as concisely as possible. It actually took me longer than I had anticipated.
- No more HTML! =( The Huskies will miss you, Brad, I can safely say that this was my favorite class here at the UW. Good luck and have an awesome time in Colorado =)
