Excellent work on this critique. Olga's site is outstanding, and yes, it's open to interpretation. But the stark black and white screen and the dark images set the mood, and given the content, what better colors than black and white. Similarly, I like the black and white you chose to mirror the critiqued site. And nice work getting some images in there to let your reader see what you're talking about. The images really drive the rhetoric of her site after all. The alt tags help your reader know where the arrows are taking the reader. So, generally, your markup looks good, too. Keep it up. 10.
And your points about Birkerts on history and evolution are right on. As is the point that sound prose is sound in any medium. But sound prose is easier to read when it's not wall to wall screen -- how about some margins?
