Job 19 vs. 2 "How long will ye vex my soul, and break
me in pieces with words?"
Job is answering Bildad the Shuhite (His
friend supposedly) who has along with two others been saying that Job must have
sinned if God punishes him like it appears he is. In this chapter (19) we find
many phrases that we know ("..the skin of my teeth." vs. 20) and we
know of sorts vs. 2. Job knows that what his friends are saying is wearing him
down, yet he knows that if he stays true to God he will in his
"flesh...see God:" vs. 26.
We all know the
saying "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words can
never hurt me" are we sure that it is true? Words are a powerful tool,
words persuade, tell off, entreat, comfort and words give pleasure, they
flatter, annoy and also destroy. Job knew words can save "Oh that my words
were now written!" (Job 19 vs. 23). We would all do well to remember that.
If we do not speak when we could have we may condemn ourselves and the person
we would have otherwise saved. "For charity shall cover the multitude of
sins." (1Peter 4 vs. 8) Charity comes in many forms, it can be literal
charity work for the poor but also the extending of the hand of Fellowship to a
sinner, this work of charity also saves it involves words and teaching through
words.
Be strong in faith in these last days for the
words of the World can and will tempt us, but if we read the Word of the Lord
often we can chase away temptation, learn of our salvation, be guided in our
way to the Kingdom and in our flesh we shall "see God."
