IN THE FRONT OF THE SCHOOL
Gerard
has arrived with Eve, Eddie and the rest of the task force with every other
unit of police in the area. Gerard says
to Eve, "I just spoke to Agent Holmes, she's on her way in. You two enter the front and cover the exits. I'll run around to where Holmes was going
in." Eve and Eddie run into the
front.
All
of a sudden Alex runs up to Gerard and is crying, "Daddy!!"
Seeing
that she's been hurt, Gerard says, "Alex, what happened to you?!"
With as upset as Alex is, Gerard can do nothing but stay and hold his
daughter.

OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL AT THE SOUTH
EXIT
Kimble
finds himself facing Kari. She drops her
gun to her side. They both look
extremely relieved to see each other. She jerks her head. "This way!"
Kimble,
behind her, dashes across the open stretch of parking lot to the border hedge.
"Charnquist--he's getting away!" pants Kimble.
"He
won't get far. I just got word that the
school's now surrounded." They push their way into the high bushes.
They
look at each other with everything in the world to say to one another but know
they only have seconds together.
Kari
breaks the silence by saying.
"Weren't you supposed to take me out to dinner?"
Kimble
smiles and says, "Not this time. Kari,
Maggie found a diary that Helen wrote. Go see her and get it. There might be something in there that can help
my case."
"I'll
do that." Kari takes the copies of her notes from her front jeans pocket,
handing them to Kimble. "Meanwhile, take a look at this.
I saw the coroner today. I think
you'll find my notes a very interesting read.
I just hope you can read my handwriting."
Kimble
takes the notes and says, "If I can't, it gives me a reason to call
you."
Suddenly,
Kari looks at him in exasperation. “Why didn’t you call me to tell me you were
coming to Chicago! Its too dangerous for you here. Don’t you trust me?”
Kimble
pauses for a second, then says emphatically, “Yes, I do trust you.” At the
sound of more sirens approaching, he reaches out impulsively and kisses her
before running toward the fence bordering the schoolyard. As he leaps over
it he calls back, “Ben brought an accomplice with him. He’s handcuffed inside.”
He drops to the ground. “Walsh is dead. The
Greentree Motel!”, he shouts before running away. Kari frowns in frustration as a blaring horn
drowns out his last words. Then she turns and runs as fast as she can back into
the school.
